Great to try an Indian that's a little different. Loved the fully loaded garlic poppadoms. Dishes are not as spicy as we are used to but everything was extra tasty. I think that matches with Indian rather than Bangladeshi. Can't wait to go back next time we are in Maldon.

The best ever, in all respects.My partner and I agreed it was the best Indian food we had ever had, in the friendliest and most welcoming restaurant we had ever visited. We felt it was like visiting family for a relaxed and delicious meal. Indeed, King is family run and Dad, Son and Grandson were all keen to chat about their family, their history and the food.
Easy to find on the bend in the High Street and an absolute delight. Mind the half a tuk-tuk as you go in 🤣.

Wow what a gem of a place - where do I start. The staff are so friendly and helpful going through options on the menu and offering tasters. The food was absolutely amazing, they offered a good selection of vegetarian for me and authentic dishes from parts of India that they have on special. A Kingly ExperienceThis is a small, quirky, long, narrow restaurant at the top of Maldon High Street. We went on a Saturday night ( having booked) and they were turning casual diners away. It was full. It’s a family run place and they made an effort to be helpful, in explaining dishes and making suggestions.
There is the standard (modest) menu and then monthly specials. We chose lamb from the specials, a vegetable curry and various spicy chicken starters. Nobody had any cause to complain. All the food was delicious, lamb very tender, decent portions and reasonable prices.
Their nan breads were excellent and we thoroughly recommend starting off with spicy garlic poppadoms - really delicious. Their mango chutney was worthy of note.
We left full, pleased with the whole experience, including the bill, and eager to return.
They deserve to be in a slightly bigger venue, less challenged by the narrow shape. It can be a bit cramped in there.

Simply the best and always differentAnother wonderful meal at King's. So enjoy the monthly menus and being able to try different cuisines and having the differences explained. Ate here in March 2026 with my wife and son. We did not have a reservation but this was not an issue for the staff who were able to seat us immediately.
The restaurant had a great atmosphere and the staff were fantastic - friendly and helpful without being overbearing.

All very reasonably priced. We paid around £90 and we're all comfortablly full when we left.

Visited King Traditional Indian Curries on Saturday 20th December 2025 with my wife and friends. Have to say the food, service and all round experience was fantastic. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful when choosing the right dishes and considering I am vegetarian. The food was fabulous and super tasty and a welcome change from the normal 'Indian' korma/madras/vindaloo type curries that are available in other restaurants. I can highly recommend a visit to this place. Prices were very reasonable and on par with current restaurant prices. Well worth the visit and we will be back again.

Amazing food in very pleasant surroundings with lovely staff.We visited King's Indian Restaurant for the first time last night. On entering we were impressed with the comfortable Indian style interior. The staff were very attentive from the start and helped us with our choice of food. The starters were very good particularly the onion bhajis which were light and crispy and probably the best we've ever tasted. The mains were also very good and my daughter, who has been to India many times, said the flavours of the food were very authentic and my partner remarked that the basmati rice was the best he had ever had. He then went on to rave about the kulfi which he said was delicious.
On our way out we had quite a long conversation with the owner who was such a pleasant man as, in fact were all the staff.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening all round and we will definitely be going back.

Fantastic & authentic Indian home cooked foodWe ate here with a couple of friends on Tuesday 25th November, The food was absolutely exceptional and was completely different to the usual curry we have had from our local restaurants. Every dish we ate was beautifully presented and gave us the true taste of Indian home cooking.....I can thoroughly recommend the Himachi kangri Khatta lamb and onion & potato bhaji's.I seriously cannot fault the food, the service and fantastic surroundings.
I can definitely recommend this hidden gem in the town of Maldon........ worth a visit, you won't be disappointed.

Finally a real curry house making proper curries the traditional way. Slow cooked lamb on the bone, layered spicing and rich flavours that seem to have been lost in most Indian restaurants. The owner took the time to explain how each dish is cooked and even gave us some of their monthly specials to try before we ordered. If you like Indian bread the Paratha is excellent and the Chicken 65 was also very good. We will be back.

Excellent authentic Indian foodVisited for a midweek meal at their latest venue at the top of town; had enjoyed meals at the previous location.
Again we were not disappointed, we opted for four starters with a mains dish to share along with bread. Everything was really well cooked and presented and we didn’t leave even a crumb!
Washed down with a couple of cobras.
The new venue has been tastefully fitted and decorated, proving a cosy environment.
The best thing of course is the excellent authentic choices on the food menu!

Our first time here tonight and we had a wonderful meal. The restaurant is decorated beautifully, the service was great, and the knowledge and recommendations from the owner were fantastic, and the food was delicious! We will definitely be back, thank you ☺️

Such delicious food, we had tandoori chicken starter which was freshly cooked to order and our mains were a delight. You could tell everything was made authentically. Service was incredible too with a treat at the end. Will definitely be back!

Had dinner here last night and can safely say it was the tastiest, most delicious Indian food I’ve ever had, a real treat.
Staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly, 100% recommend 🤩

First time going to the restaurant tonight and it was superb. My wife has a nut allergy and they couldn’t have been more accommodating which was very reassuring. The starters were full of flavour and were so tasty. The waiter was brilliant and even brought out samples of the sauces for one of the main dishes to see if we liked it. I will definitely be back and I couldn’t recommend this restaurant enough. 10/10.

I've lived in Maldon my entire life and I can honestly say that this is the best curry I've ever eaten - not just in Maldon but literally ever. No slop served here. Just authentic Indian curries, cooked by Indians. The manager was very friendly and expounded upon his family's culinary philosophy: they don't serve anything they wouldn't eat themselves. Hence we ordered the chicken samosas as one of our starters and were told that, because the chef wasn't happy with their quality, they were no longer available to order (the substitute was extremely satisfying). I got the sense that they genuinely cared about the food they were serving - and you can tell. Delicious flavours. Great service. Will be visiting again, no question. What a wonderful place to have on our high street.

I cannot recommend King Curries highly enough. You can just tell the difference — it’s the real deal. Fresh ingredients, real Indian food — the most delicious curry I’ve ever had, I’ve never had a curry like this! The bhajis especially were so delicious! The staff are so friendly too, they went out of their way to give us a great experience and make us feel welcome. I loved it here.

Delicious food in a warm and friendly environment. Such a welcome addition to Maldon's restaurant scene. A family-run business with a passion for cooking real Indian dishes, using quality ingredients to create curries bursting with flavour. The menu is small but there is something for everyone, and you can choose the degree of spicy heat that works for you. The waiting staff are young and enthusiastic which makes up for the slightly haphazard service - nothing that some further training can't put right. A drink we ordered wasn't to our taste, and a replacement was provided free of charge with no hassle - brilliant. The onion bahjis were perfectly cooked - just spicy and crispy enough to make you want to order more! Good job we didn't - our main courses were generous portions of mouthwatering meat, vegetables and rice that hopefully we did justice to. This is a far cry from the British interpretation of Indian food that is generally available, and all the better for that. We'll definitely be repeat customers!

Fabulous first visit!
First class traditional Indian food. Everything we ordered was delicious. Far superior to the Westernised style of food that is offered in most other restaurants.
Service was friendly and helpful, with the owners spending time with us explaining the dishes and how they made them.
We felt properly welcomed and looked after. Will definitely be returning to try the menu of the month.

Simply the best curry this side of the Indian Ocean
Second visit to the new restaurant at the top of the high street and what a difference. You can see the owners have really pulled out all the stops and this flows through into the most amazing traditional India food you will taste without having to get on a 4,000 mile flight! Don’t expect the usual “Indian” menu though and trust chef and waiting team and let your taste buds take you on a journey with a superbly decorated venue🙏 I was in Delhi in November 24 and was instantly transported back with my first bite. Also don’t miss out on the garlic paratha!!!

After Revisiting after the move from the down the high street to the top I was not disappointed.

The restaurant offers delicious and interesting dishes originating from different regions of India. Not your usual Indian takeaway - the menu changes each month and they specialise in 3 meat dishes and 3 vegetarian dishes. Each curry has a unique taste and they all stand out from each other. The restaurant is particularly good for vegetarians as they offer lentil dals and vegetable curries that you won’t find anywhere else on the high street. Everything is made from scratch and the spices are great. I would definitely recommend going.

Not what you expect from a High Street Indian Restaurant - better - as you can experience proper Indian Food. Coconut Chicken was the last thing I expected to find but so I’m pleased I did. Also try the rest of the Menu particularly the Tawa dishes. Great food crafted with spices but not particularly hot to bring out their individual flavours.

Superb flavours and great service
Having eaten here before, booked for a special meal with my mates. I had pre-booked a range of menu items which made it a lot easier for the kitchen and service. As before, everything we had was really tasty, a level above other Indian restaurants, and everyone was well satisfied. We bagged and took away what was left over (it would be a crime to waste it!). Bhavesh and his staff looked after us really well and we will certainly be back.

Bahresh and his wife were excellent hosts last night, (apologies if I've spent your name wrong buddy) jenny and I had a lovely evening thank you, engaging thoughtful hosts, onto the food we tried about 6 of the starters, kebabs, samosas, bonbay potato spiral really nice flavour well presented, my favourite were the samosas chunky full of filing and flavor and no grease. We had the kalaal lamb curry, very tasty dish, full of chunky bits of lamb, and the best lamb biriani I've ever had. The food is very authentic and Bahresh and co take great pride in what they do, rightly so, spending at least half hour with us both bringing out free tasters/discussing the cooking method and history rich heritage of their beautiful food, aubergines and a black chick pea dish, beautiful, I'll be visiting you guys again very soon, thanks again for a lovely evening.

A good range of dishes with something for everyone. Kids had the usual tikka masala, but the wife had a salmon rice dish while I went for a classic Gujarati mung dish. Welcoming staff, very friendly, make you feel right at home.

Just incredibly each and every dish I tried. The authentic Indian cooking is second to nun. I have never tasted Biriani like that. We ordered way to much of everything but brought the rest home with us. Great night out amazing food and cheaper than most about. But bar far the best Indian food about.
We will be going back asap to try more. It's a small place so hard to get a seat. But just get food to take away as you will not be sorry. Amazing night out with great food and service. 100% excellent.

Great food and hospitality, if you really love your curries I would recommend that you visit Kings, authentic Indian food. Not like normal Indian restaurant serves authentic Indian food only no chicken tikka masala so you have an opportunity to try something different. Fantastic service and they will help you with your choice of dish, I have my daughters with me who are not spicy food lovers so the owner brought out 3 small dishes for them to try before they ordered. The food was exceptional and cannot wait to return.

I’ve lived in maldon the majority of my life and never have I tasted such great food! It’s authentic and traditional. Most people when talking about Indian food automatically think of chicken tikka masala or butter chicken, the food here is real Indian food and proper authentic curries. I personally have tried 4 different curries here all of different spices including lamb and chicken and each one absolutely delicious! I definitely recommend going here, staff is lovely and really friendly. What a great place ❤️.

This place is a breath of fresh air for the local curry scene in Rayleigh. The quality and service of Alpesh and brother is unmatched and has been that way from their opening week. If you're unsure about anything on the menu, I advise you to visit them and they will be more than happy to talk you through the dish that will best suit you. My family and I did this and also got some lovely tasters of each dish for that month - yes, the curries rotate each month which is amazing for any enthusiast like myself. The passion of the place rubs off on the food which always tastes amazing and a lot fresher than most. If you fancy a curry tonight, look no further.

Visited the Maldon restaurant last night, great experience with the ingredients explained and very informative, definitely a different curry, not so hot but can taste the spices, would definitely recommend.

Alpesh and all the staff are helpful knowledgeable and friendly … and the food is a delight- a relatively small selection of dishes available, all delicious.

This is the best curry I have had for many years and tha's saying something because until recently we lived in East London. They have three meat mains and three veg specials every month. It’s a splendidly limited menu which means they concentrate on things they cook really well. They even kindly delivered for us. That communication was excellent. Can’t fault this wonderful food and family business.

Went I to order a takeaway, opted for a lamb and chicken dish, never heard of either before but expected that to be the case. I was provided with great information regarding what to order with the meat dishes, very friendly and helpful staff. The dishes were very tasty and the meat and chicken were plentiful and extremely tender and tasty. Highly recommended.

Wanted to give this place a try after reading the reviews on here so went last night with my sons and wasn’t disappointed. Warm welcome when we arrived (we were the first there place soon filled up) menu given and staff were on hand to guide us with ordering so that we didn’t waste our money but ordering things we don’t like or to much food that we couldn’t eat. As our tastes varied this was a real help so that none of us got something that we didn’t like. Food was to a very good standard and looked good as well. After our starters and mains which we all enjoyed we had a selection of deserts to try between the four of us which was lovely so we got to try eight different sweets. There was something for all of us. Will we go back, for sure but next time we will take the girls with us as we know they will like it.

When my wife and I saw that the old Pie and Mash shop was being replaced by a new Indian restaurant, we were intrigued when we saw the menu, which seemed a little different to the run of the mill Indian restaurants - more authentic Indian cuisine. We recently got around to popping in for a bite to eat for lunch. We both went for the full Thali - all I can say is WOW! A riot of colour and flavour, so fresh and vibrant. And then when you speak to the owners, their passion for the food is so evident and it’s no surprise then that the food is so good! Highly recommended and I wish them every success!

The food was really tasty and different to other restaurants with generous portions. The owner and his family were friendly and helpful. There was a nice atmosphere. It is a small restaurant but better ventilation would be of benefit as our clothes had a curry fragrance the next day! and the door had to be left open for a short while. But we will go back.

The food is amazing. We got takeaway and although the menu isn't extensive what they do, they do really well. Very authentic and you feel like it has been cooked by a friend in their home. I would definitely recommend, so different from your usual Indian dishes.

It was so good to be able to eat genuine Indian food. Delicious food, friendly atmosphere, great prices. The owners are very proud of their food, and so they should be, and take delight in explaining all of their dishes. Why go to a bog standard Indian restaurant serving typical Anglo-Indian stuff when you can go here to eat the real deal! We will be returning.

The owners and staff are beyond passionate about their food, and they have every right to be - it is delicious.
Have been there twice now to sample their monthly curries, and both times the food was wonderful.
For the price, I have never eaten better (Lunch menu: £15 for three curries, rice, sides, dessert and a drink, enough food to leave me completely full? Perfect!), but nothing tastes cheap! It tastes like lovely, homecooked, and traditional Indian cooking.

Wheelchair accessibility: A group with two wheelchairs sat at the table next to us with no issues - the staff made sure they had space, but the dining area is quite small. Large wheelchairs might struggle when it's busy.

Visited for the first time this week and was delighted with the quality of the food, which was all delicious and very different from the standard Indian restaurant fare. The home made parathas were especially gorgeous, as was a paneer and cashew curry and traditional chai. Service was friendly and the price was very reasonable for the quality of the food. Will definitely be visiting again.

First visit tonight, greeted by the lovely owners. Very friendly, explained about the different flavours in the food and the authenticity. The popadoms were very nice, served with mango chutney, I had a prawn dish served with rice and we also had a lamb dish. It was very flavoursome and the cost very reasonable. We will definitely be going back, thank you

Indian food served here is the food we've been missing out on. It's fresh and flavoursome. I've never had a tastier poppadom. Offering a platter to get a variety of foods is spot on if you visit between 1pm and 4pm. The staff were friendly and very passionate. I wish all food places were like this. We will be back!

The comments are all valid - a deliberate limited menu as all items are cooked to order ( none of the typical, multifaceted choices you see on larger menus), and everything was really really tasty. The popadoms and parathas were fresh and the lightest I have even eaten. The lamb Tawa was exceptional, slow cooked and on the bone (as all chefs know this really enhances the flavour and texture of the meat). The staff were very welcoming, explained the various main dishes and were prepared to adjust the heat (chilli) intensity of our main dishes to suit us. We couldn’t finish our meals but were offered to take the remainder away in foil boxes, which we did. Overall really really good food, caring and passionate service and we will be back. They take bookings and provide takeaways.

Great curry, no fake watery soup like sauce, just full of flavour and traditional flavours. Probably the best curry in Maldon if you don't want to travel.

The food was fantastic! Real authentic Indian cuisine. The host was clearly passionate and extremely knowledgeable about the food and happily talked us through the menu. I went for the medium Thali (pictured) and will be going back for it again!

It was so good to be able to eat genuine Indian food. Delicious food, friendly atmosphere, great prices. The owners are very proud of their food, and so they should be, and take delight in explaining all of their dishes. Why go to a bog standard Indian restaurant serving typical Anglo-Indian stuff when you can go here to eat the real deal! We will be returning.
Vegetarian options: True Indian vegetarian dishes. No English invention Bombay Potatoes. Try the truly Indian Green Potatoes instead.

Omg the flavours were fantastic this is no normal curry house I’m used to eating traditional authentic Indian food I would normally have to travel to brick lane or East Ham even south hall for this type of food I’m delighted to have on my doorstep in Maldon.

FINALLY! An indian restaurant that’s serves a small and authentic menu, I have been waiting for this day for a very long time , for someone to push against the mainstream rubbish served in most of our British curry houses, i usually refer to them as two sauce fits all! Either Red or Yellow, and with a menu that spans 7 pages you just know they don’t cook fresh food from scratch.
But here they serve individually created curries that all have there own taste/ flavour from the regions of India 🇮🇳, ok it’s not as upmarket inside as there competitors but I actually like the fact that they are more worried about the food Than the decor!
I won’t spoil the surprise of going by raving about certain dishes but you can’t go wrong whatever you choose.And the menu changes on a monthly basis so keeps it interesting.
I really hope they succeed against the mainstream and that enough people out there want a true taste of India!

Last evening I took my wife here to celebrate her birthday. The welcome was lovely and the food that followed was delicious. The staff were really helpful in explaining the menu overall and the dishes in particular. We will return!

We organised an Indian meal at our Club for 35 people. We had a sample tasting session of their curries beforehand. On the night the food was absolutely fantastic - having been to India several times their food is traditional Indian food with all meat cooked on the bone. Every dish has so much flavour and their spices are very different. Fantastic people who are so enthusiastic about their food.

The most authentic curry I’ve ever had. Food was absolutely delicious. A limited menu and all dishes were new to me. I had blackened lamb. The most incredible samosas, spicy popadoms . Everything is home made and fresh. No alcohol license at the moment but food so good we didn’t really notice.

We stopped here for lunch because we had noticed the new restaurant opening, we were pleasantly surprised with this authentic family run quaint little place. Food was absolutely delicious! Truly authentic to traditional Indian cuisine, unlike typical Indian food around. This is real Indian! How it should be. Such a great atmosphere, very friendly and welcoming brothers that offer such a personal experience. Fantastic how they change the menu monthly, tasters club style 5* can't wait 4more!!

We went for lunch today. The dishes were full of flavor. Very friendly staff who chatted about the recipes and also helped me with my studies of traditional Indian sanskrit/yoga. We will definitely be back very soon.

After returning from the Middle East I was worried I would not be able to find the same great level of authentic Indian food in the UK without travelling into London, the food here at Kings is amazingly authentic and their flavours and passion for the food are simply amazing! good luck to all the family! we will be back weekly!

Had a great meal here last night. The setting is basic but the food and the service are absolutely outstanding. The family are so welcoming and friendly and could not be more attentive and helpful. Real authentic, home-cooked Indian food. We will definitely be going back!

Had a great experience of King’s Traditional Indian restaurant last Friday, with a group of 6. Food was very delicious and very authentic, we were looked after very well by the friendly staff and manager. Can’t wait to go back!! The chicken Tikka masala, and Biryani were stand out dishes, and the Lacchha Paratha!! 👌 😊

The table setting and interior decor is quite simple and basic. However, the quality of the food is on another level. Extremely aromatic and a wonderful array of spices, and cooked in a more traditional way than the typical Indian takeaway. The meat was so tender and fresh, and the vegetable dishes (moong dal was a hit) were great too. The service and hospitality were excellent too. A definite must-try to anyone who likes to give their tastebuds an Indian spice adventure.

This is new to Maldon High Street and not your normal Indian restaurant - nothing fancy, plastic tablecloths, this is authentic and the owners are so warm and friendly. As for the food, its delicious, we have been there a couple of times now with friends and family and will go again. Can 100% recommend the lunchtime thali!! Was fabulous! We are due to visit India later in the year and they have gone above and beyond to give us so much helpful advice!

We visited a few weeks ago after hearing great reviews on the local groups. We tried to visit the week before but due to the food being freshly cooked on a daily basis - they had sold out of their menu by 7.30 (which in itself was a good sign!) The owners are so welcoming and very passionate about their chosen dishes that they update and change each month. It was so lovely to have an Indian meal that I felt transported me back to my travels of India! It's no fancy table cloths and ambience - but it is great food with lovely service!! Very reasonably priced - there were 4 of us and we had a mixture of starters, mains and sides (of which we couldn't have had anything else as we were all so full) - and which all came to roughly £60. Can't wait to return and try this months menu!!

This new Indian restaurant in Maldon is simply fantastic! The food is very fresh and tastes lovely, particularly the unique blend of tasty spices and seasonings. Everything's traditional and the staff are fantastic. I would highly recommend this lovely place to anyone who loves a good curry.

We came across the boys at King Traditional Indian Restaurant by chance while walking up the High Street. We are only on Holiday... but the smells coming from there were amazing...So on our way back down we said we would get a takeaway...The boys haven't got everything in place for takeaway as yet as they have only opened this week... but hope to have that side of it sorted soon. So we said we would sit in, and with their knowledge had a really lovely authentic meal.... with wonderful sides and paratha. The Thali set meal between 1pm and 4pm looks brilliant too, we will deffo be back in there next time to try them. And apparently they are changing the menu round every month... so regulars can try something new. Brilliant find.... Will deffo be back. Thank you.

The taste of home-cooked Indian food by a family who are passionate to share their pride in good food and hospitality. We had dishes with lamb and chicken, but for me the winner was the Dahl- creamy, tempered with garlic oil and a hug in a bowl. Go there if you can get a seat - booking essential!

We had the pleasure of dining here Friday evening and had a wonderful experience. The food is outstanding and the owners are so passionate about the food they are producing. The food is fresh, delicious and great value for money. Every dish served was welcomed with a learning of its origin and cooking style. We will defiantly be returning. They also change the menu once a month and we can not wait to return to try new authentic traditional food which they serve going forward!

Had meal at Kings last night - wow it was delicious, not dripping in grease/ghee, absolutely full of beautiful flavours...very reasonably priced! The guys are so passionate about their food...highly recommend 👌 Wishing these guys ever success as they so deserve it! Vegetarian options: I chose vegetable biryani and it was the best vegetable curry I have ever tasted!

Just had lunch here and it was amazing, so much better than anywhere else and right up there amongst the very best we’ve had anywhere. The food was beautifully spiced, full of flavour without being too hot, and the people are so friendly and genuine. I have to mention the prices as they’re so reasonable it’s hard to imagine how good the food really is. Also, they even offer proper Indian desserts. We had veg curry, Bombay potatoes, onion Bhaji, chicken curry (cooked on the bone for extra flavour) and rice. Everything was lovely and we were bowled over by the flavours. The owners are going to be changing their menus each month, always with choices of meat and vegetable curries, and say they’re going to be trying new things - we intend to be there to try them all! We cannot recommend them highly enough - if you enjoy Indian food please eat here.
